Instructions

  1. Create A Theme

    • 1
Decide if your book will be simple, fancy, classic, funny, serious, religious, spiritual or trendy.
    • 2
Make a list of items you would like to put on the cover and back of your book such as pictures of teddy bears, balloons, candy, robots, toys, etc.
    • 3
Try not to overwhelm the birth mom who will be viewing your book with too many images.
    • 4
Use color and black-and-white film if you wish, or choose one.
    • 5
Include pictures of family and friends and write captions for each one.
    • 6
Include an amusing anecdote or funny story to show that you use humor in life.

Creating the Inside of the Book

    • 7
Write a short letter to the birth mom on page one introducing yourself as a couple. Include pictures of you and your family with caption.
    • 8
On one page put at the top "_______ (Name of adoptive dad's) family" then include various pictures in a collage form.
    • 9
On the next page do the same as step two, only supply the adoptive mom's family with pictures.
    • 10
On another page include wedding and engagement pictures with the caption above written as "Merging of Two Families." Include a couple of lines about your wedding if you wish.
    • 11
On the following page copy and paste a color picture of your house along with a photo of any pets and their names, if applicable.
    • 12
Add a travel section of your various vacations if it applies and include pictures along with short descriptions of what they are.

    Including Other Children

    • 13
Dedicate a page or two to any other children you have along with pictures and brief descriptions. You can also use clip art in addition to photos.
    • 14
If your other child is adopted include photos of his or her adoption finalization celebration, vacation pictures, leisure photos and numerous other snapshots.
    • 15
Show balance in your family with your pictures.
    • 16
Show something unique like a collection, unusual pet or interesting hobby that your other child might be part of.

    Last Page

    • 17
Wrap up your last page with a photo of you as a couple along with your child in the picture. Underneath, write a brief summary and a sentiment regarding your wishes for the birth mom.
    • 18
      Accurately represent yourself.
    • 19
Have an objective person look over your book before turning it over to the agency.
